So one of my definite highlights of 2011 was the Bloc weekender. Held down at Butlins in Minehead, the curators put together an absolute banquet of the best in electronic music in one of the best organised festivals in the UK. I can sum it up as follows…
ALL THE ARENAS ARE MASSIVE CLUBS AND YOU GET A HOTEL ROOM THROWN IN!
So as I didn’t get any official photo accreditation I decided to forgo the expensive equipment and, despite the threat of looking like a hipster, decided to bring my trusty Nikkormat FT and some Ilford Delta 3200 film – best thing for the inevitable lack of light. It was fun, it worked a treat and it makes you think before you take each shot- a practice I’d recommend to all photographers.
Being such a proactive guy it took a further 8 months for me to get the films developed and scanned in but at least it’s given me something to post about now. I was quite happy with some of the club shots – there were quite a few blurred frames, which was expected in the very low lighting- and I really like the feel of some of the daylight shots. They give the site a rather eerie feel. In fact they brought back memories of a sketchy bloke I met who was babbling about it being like Auschwiz (a tad harsh on the promoters I thought).
