I mentioned in my previous post that I was watching The Sunshine Underground as I was doing a piece on the band which were supporting them. This band was called Troumaca, they are a Birmingham based five-piece who make good music. Have a listen below...
The whole piece I did on the band is online elsewhere, just CLICK HERE.
Further to writing a piece I also took some photographs, as is my 'thing'. There were more than enough pics for the article so here's a selection of those.
As part of a piece I was writing on the band 'Troumaca' (see other blog post) I got to shoot them at their gig at Club Academy in Manchester. The were the support act for Leeds based dancey-indie types 'The Sunshine Underground'. I naturally shot the headliners too; I had an opportunity and a camera! The pics weren't for anything in particular so I thought I'd share a few with you here as they're never going to be anywhere else.
I recently got to shoot Emile Sande's gig at the Manchester Ritz. I've been a fan since I heard 'Heaven', especially the Nu:Tone Remix which is just one of the most perfect musical creations ever, but it wasn't until I heard her debut album 'Our Version of Events' that I realised what a major talent she is. Voices like hers don't come around too often and it's a refreshing change from the usual autotuned shit you get in popular music.
Anyway I'd just like to share a few pics from the gig here. If you'd like to know more of my thoughts you can check out the FULL REVIEW.
So I now have a camera with video capabilities and I intend to start learning and mastering the art of video very soon! The first one I took was at a Metropolis night I was shooting in Sankeys. Toddla T was absolutely killing it and dropped Marka. It got pulled up and so I hit record to catch the tune from the start. Luckily at that exact moment, my man MC DRS decided to do a stage dive into the Sankeys crowd! He managed to take out quite a few people with this move but the room still went off! The sound quality from the internal microphone was crap so I dubbed over the original tune...
Talib Kweli played at the Manchester Ritz last week. It was a very good gig and I will go into more detail about that in the next issue of Example Magazine with a full review. In the mean time here's a few shots of, and a tune by, one of the best underground MCs to grace a stage. Go check him out if you haven't heard of him; the albums Quality, Reflection Eternal and Blackstar are a goooood starting point.
I recently did a promo shoot with dubstep producer Compa as he needed a few shots for general promotions, and more specifically for an interview in Trap Magazine. For those who don't know Compa, he's been making waves with his dark dubstep styles for some time now, generating massive interest with his 'Dem a Talk' track, which was finally released this year.
Another element of his game which is garnering a lot of respect is his commitment to vinyl and dubplates, DJing solely on turntables and pioneering nights committed to only vinyl DJs. His releases so far have all been...
I was staying in London recently. Just near Victoria. One evening I had a little time to spare around midnight so I decided to go for a wander to the Queens pad and get a shot of it with nobody around (hopefully). I think it came out pretty well. I have a great love of shooting in cities at night and if I had more time I would've hit up the Houses of Parliament too. There's always next time for that I guess....
Its been bloody ages since I put anything up here so, in an effort to show I've definitely not been sat on my arse, here are some links to articles I've done recently. I'll make an effort to keep these links updated as and when I get new stuff online!

Last month I did a shoot with the multi-talented members of the Joe Kalius Project in Manchester. The collective, formed last year, features some of Manchester's most promising talent and they do it all; produce, sing, MC, DJ, promote events, you name it and one of them can probably do it (apart from take pictures, which is where I come in).
So after arriving at the home of Dom Hz, I find out that one member (pun intended), Smithy, is asleep at home and nobody can wake him. Luckily, we're not too bothered and I get to listen to some of the upcoming music Dom & his fiance Helen...
Until maybe a week or two ago, anyone into their dark drum and bass knew about knew about Dub Phizix, his releases on labels such as Ingredients, Dispatch and Soul:R have gained him a growing reputation. In a short time everyone has heard his name, thanks to a tune called Marka. A deep & tribal collaboration between himself and Skeptical, combined with a striking vocal from Broke n £nglish's Strategy has produced one of the most hyped bass music releases I have ever seen, complete with its own 'Christmas Number 1' campaign.
In short, it is a monster of a tune.
My own involvement...
